Craig Kiessling I *really* like this logic - especially as a traditional Chinese martial arts teacher - as it's similar logic for true understanding and applicable foundation knowledge.

1:38 pm - Transportation situation

sonic6398
So my car is out of commission until the start of wcc fall quarter(I'll get money to repair it then). Until then, does anyone have a decent road bike, preferably with drop handlebars for under $150? I need it to get to work every day.

Thanks WCC

7:07 pm - need a place!

sonic6398
So my lease is up soon ad I'm having a lot of trouble finding a new place to live.

I'm looking for temporary or permanent, depending on how things work out.

I'm a 20 year old part time worker who's going to school in the fall at WCC.
I'm clean, keep to myself, and try to keep things calm and collected. The place I'm at now is a party house, but I'm not much of a party animal. I just want a place where I can chill out, read, and surf the internet.

My rent range is up to 300 a month right now due to financial constraints.

If anyone on the community needs a roomie, please don't hesitate call or email me.

My apologies if you've seen this elsewhere, but I want to make as many people aware of this issue as possible.

I work at The Black Drop Coffeehouse and we participate in a youth work program for at-risk and low-income youths.

KGMI's Morning show with Joe and Patti successfully dismantled a major aspect of it on their talk show July 1. Thanks to their irresponsible message, the homeless shelter we were working with has lost their funding for job training.

If you can stomach it, try listening to the show here http://tiny.cc/Jjnb3

But also be sure to read our rebuttal here http://tiny.cc/jLo1t

Thanks a lot, KGMI - way to go. >:-[

3:48 pm - Dire Straits!

sonic6398
Hello Bellingham/Wcc communities(respectively)

I have a rather severe situation on my hands that I hope LJ can help me solve.

The first problem is that my current place to live expires on monday. I have to be gone, vacant, and permanently unseen from my room by then or my stuff(all two bags of it) go to goodwill.

The other problem is that I don't get paid until the 19th.

Is there anyone on livejournal that A. Has an empty room in their house that I could start renting(preferrably long term) starting on the 15-16th? I'm looking to pay about 3-350 a month and I'm very clean and personable. The only thing is that I wouldn't have rent until the aforementioned pay day, but I could have it in full.
Or B. Has a couch I could crash on between monday and friday(payday).

I'm a really nice guy and I don't want to become homeless.

Thanks for any help!

10:54 pm - Art Opportunity

ecotone_s
Greetings All!

My name is Victor and I am working on a project to start traffic box murals here in Bellingham. What are traffic box murals?
I am doing this as an independent contract with The Evergreen State College while I am home here in bham for the summer.

Back in June I presented the Arts Commission with the idea, and they want to see it get off the ground, so I am working on developing policy and other bureaucratic gravy that will hopefully lead to funding. I am headed back in August to finish the proposal and request such funding for six locations to start the project.

The locations are next to the Black Drop here in downtown, at the Cornwall rose garden, in the Fountain district, in Fairhaven, and at Sunnyland Elementary. I am looking for people that might be interested in painting the boxes. The criteria is pretty much that they just melt in with the neighborhood and reflect community pride, and look awesome!

No funding is guaranteed yet, but the catch is that I need to have something to show the commission that 1) people would be interested in actually doing this, and 2) there are capable community members that can do this. And that people are interested in starting right away if funding is allocated. I want this to grow like it has done in other cities, and I want full credit this quarter! So let your artist friends know about this awesome opportunity! My e-mail is sanvic10@evergreen.edu.

Thanks! x-posted a whole bunch

genderpac

The Gender Public Advocacy Coalition is pleased to announce the release of its 2008 GENIUS Survey in partnership with Ernst & Young.  GenderPAC works to ensure that classrooms, communities and workplaces are safe for everyone to learn, grow and succeed.

The Gender Equality National Index for Universities & Schools (GENIUS), GenderPAC’s most recent effort to end discrimination and promote awareness, encourages colleges and universities to recognize the benefits of a GenderSAFEtm campus - supportive equitable and protective for all students. Choosing to participate in GENUIS sends a strong public statement that bullying or discriminating based on the race, sex or gender of a student, faculty, or staff member is not tolerated at your institution

Fill out the survey at:  www.gpac.org/GENIUS2008survey, and make sure that we have data for as many schools as possible. Your voice will help us continue to work towards a safe and welcoming environment for every student.

While we greatly appreciate the interest taken in GENIUS by students, staff and faculty at academic institutions outside of the United States, at this time GENIUS is only able to track schools based in the United States.
